In order to detect the establishment of quarantine weeds intercepted with import of wheat grains during 2006-07 from different countries and distributed in Public Distribution system in 10 states viz., W. Bengal, Orissa, Andhra Pradesh, Tamilnadu, Karnataka, Kerela, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh, a programme in all 267 districts of these states is in operation and controlled by me as National Coordinator at micro level with an initial tentative budgetary provision of almost 8 crores for 2 years. |

Responsible for planning, executing and monitoring the different research programs on weed management like survey of weed flora, mapping, their distribution, ecology and habitat; identification of new herbicides and working out weed competition threshold levels; development of effective and economic location specific weed control technologies for field and plantation crops and aquatic bodies; studying the long term residual and cumulative effects, if any, of herbicides; monitoring the herbicide residues in soil, water and food chain, being taken up at the 26 cooperating centres situated at different State Agricultural universities all over the Country. |

IMPORTANT RESEARCH ACHIEVEMENTS (As Research Scientist)
1. Introduced soybean and wheat in NEH region for the first time and developed their production technology during 1975-79
2. Developed production technology for rice and maize crops for the state of Meghalaya
3. Surveyed the weeds of rice and maize crops at different altitudes in Meghalaya
4. Developed weed management technology and studied critical period of critical period, ecology, weed management schedule and nutritional loss by weeds in rice, maize, soybean and mungbean crops
5. Identified suitable adjuvant for enhancing the efficacy of herbicides in wheat and studied in depth weed dynamics, ecology and growth behavior of prominent weeds and nutritional loss
6. Developed production technology and weed management schedule in different pulse based cropping systems for Chambal command areas in Gwalior
7. Developed agro-technology for lentil and field pea at Kanpur
8. Developed technology for the management of weeds in pulse at Kanpur which included critical period of crop weed competition, thresh hold values of loss through weeds, agro-ecology and herbicidal control in different pulse crops
9. Developed technology for nut sedge management in field crops with particular emphasis on pulses that included various aspects of crop weed competition, allelopathy, crop sequence, ecology and management. Inclusion of sesame in the cropping system reduced nut sedge infestation by almost 50% during 3 years.
10. Developed “IIPR technique” for trapping root exudates without destroying the plant.
11. Developed integrated weed management schedule in rice-lentil, maize-chickpea and chickpea + mustard cropping system and developed emulsifiable concentrates of sesame, sorghum for control of different weeds
